Destinations around the world have a variety of climates and many people are looking for the best time to visit. The climate is going to depend on where you want to go, what your priorities are, and when you’re planning on traveling. For example, if you’re interested in hiking or skiing then it’s better to travel during winter months while if you prefer warmer weather then summer may be your best option. Regardless of what type of traveler you are, there’s always a good time to visit somewhere new!
In this blog post we’ll take a look at some popular destinations from all over the world and highlight their ideal times of year so that everyone can find out when they should book their next trip. We’ll also provide some
High season for travel
Many travelers don’t know when is the high season for their destination. They commit several mistakes which can be easily avoided by just knowing the climatic conditions of your holiday destination.
As a travel blogger, I have received numerous emails from people regarding this subject. I have also seen questions asked on popular forums such as TripAdvisor and Lonely planet forums. These requests are usually something like:
This is the time of the year where this and that is happening in our country, if we stay until then, what other activities can you recommend? do you have any suggestion for us from your experience during previous visits?
My answer to these questions is always the same; “as a rule of thumb, it definitely pays off to be there during high season”.
The question then arises- when does your destination have its peak period? From personal experience, I have found that in most countries, this is also the time where you will find an increased number of tourists.
In the Philippines, there are high seasons for each city in a particular island or region. For example: Manila, Cebu City, Boracay, Binalongan (Samal) and Malapascua have high season during the months of December to March while Panagsama beach on Bohol island experiences high season during the months of November to January.
In Thailand, it is the month of October for Krabi and Phuket. Many tourists in our group came from Singapore and other parts of Indonesia. The peak period in Singapore is usually at Chinese New year while many Indonesians take their vacation between June and August because school holiday in Indonesia is during that season.
In most countries, the peak period of tourist arrivals and departures present a challenge to businesses in many ways such as: high labor cost for hotel reservations, overbooking of hotels, insufficient manpower (in other areas where seasonal workers are needed), transportation, accommodation and food supply. Customer service can also be affected too due to the number of guests.
There might be some problems along the way that may affect your travel experience (increased costs, hoards of tourists, etc).
How can you enjoy the peak season?
If you have decided to go during high season, I suggest that you follow these tips:
Plan your itinerary ahead of time; decide which city or resort you will be staying in and make reservations as early as possible. Some hotels overbook their rooms because it is common during this period but they usually offer an incentive for early booking.
In the Philippines, I usually recommend that tourists should stay at least 7 days in Boracay during high season because it is more convenient to experience all the different activities, party venues and restaurants if you have free time compared to staying just a few days.
Visit crowded tourist destinations on off-peak days. In Boracay, tourists are allowed to visit its white sand barangays (villages) only on off-peak days. Most of them have bars and restaurants that offer free flow of drinks like San Juan in Puka Beach or Mayabobo in Malibog beach. I suggest you try these bars as it is difficult to experience during peak season due to the huge number of tourists.
Traffic jams and long lines at the entrance of popular tourist destinations are common in high season so I suggest you arrive earlier or even climb mountains for a better view (if there is one). For instance, tourists who want to visit the sunset viewing deck at Maya bay in Phi Phi island should arrive at least 3 hours before the sun goes down (in high season).
Learn some basic phrases in the native language of your destination so you can communicate with other tourists during peak season. I suggest this because it is always fun to meet new friends when you’re abroad and visit their home town or city. This is an opportunity to experience real local life in your destination and mingle with the people who are really living there.
Choose a fun activity that does not require reservations or advance booking such as sightseeing, swimming, snorkeling and even walking around tourist attractions. Look for other things to do that are available during the high season before you decide to go.
Shoulder season for travel
A typical shoulder season or shoulder months refers to the time of year between high and low travel seasons. It’s a period of slow tourism in a country, state, or region where tourist attractions are still open, but fewer tourists visit than during peak times.
Most tourism industries have high seasons that can be associated with local holidays or favorable weather, and low seasons that are usually associated with periods of unfavorable weather or local holidays when attractions may be closed.
For example, a beach resort town typically has higher tourism during the summer months of July and August, often coinciding with school vacations in Europe and North America. During this time it is also hurricane season for Caribbean islands, so precautions must.
Tips to travel in winter season
This entry is not just a travel tip but it contains very useful information. Everyone should read this before traveling to any place, specially during the winter.
Breathe through your nose and exhale through mouth so that moisture does not form on your lips and freeze, as breathing may then be difficult.
Stay away from snow as it is slippery and can cause a lot of trouble while walking or skiing through it.
When there is snow further ahead, go around the area instead of going across so that you do not fall on your face. If you have to walk through the snow, use ski poles for support and walk slowly. If you are skiing or snowboarding, make sure to go at a slower pace and have more control over your turning in order to avoid falling.
Do not carry large backpacks on your shoulder as it will just weigh you down and the backpack may slip off from time to time while walking in the snow. Carry small day packs, if you are carrying at all.
When there is snow around, keep the strap of your watch over your glove or scarf so that it does not get wet and freezes when it comes in contact with moisture on your skin. You could even attach a string to your scarf/glove/wristband and tie the other end to your watch strap so that it does not fall off.
Ensure that your footwear is water resistant and you wear socks inside the shoe, especially if you are wearing sandals made for trekking or walking in snow. When going out during the day, carry an extra pair of dry socks with you. If you have to drive make sure that you have a blanket or two in your car so that if someone falls on the snow, they can be wrapped in warm blankets to bring down their body temperature.
Pack extra water and heat packs when going out during the day. If you are planning to camp overnight, make sure that you ask for permission from the forest ranger before pitching your tent in the nearby forest area.
Do not camp near trees or any place where wind can blow snow on to you as it could cause hypothermia. Make sure that you carry extra food such as chocolate bars, dried fruits etc. along with you so that if in case anyone falls sick due to snow (hypothermia), he/she can eat something and gain strength.
If going on a long drive, ensure that you carry some fire-starters or lighters along with you as there may be no one around to help you start a fire in case your car breaks down after going off the road and ends up getting stuck under snow.
Always carry medicines such as painkillers, cold tablets etc. with you in case anyone around you gets injured or develops a fever due to the extreme cold weather conditions. Carry extra clothes and wear layers instead of one thick coat so that it does not restrict your movement if you have to jump out of your car.
When traveling on high mountain passes or at higher altitudes, ensure that you carry an oxygen cylinder with you in case of the car running out of air.
Always have a cell phone along with you as it is your only source of communication if anything goes wrong. Make sure that your battery is fully charged before heading off for a trip during the winter and do not forget to carry extra batteries along with you.
All the information given above is for your reference only, always keep yourself updated about any changes on weather conditions before setting off on a trip during winter season so that you can make necessary preparations while going out of town or away from home.

Tips to travel autumn season
October is the best season for people who love nature. The air is vibrant, the skies are clear and all of nature seems to be in perfect harmony. October offers a myriad of experiences like never before.
Autumn is not only about beautiful leaves and falling temperatures, it’s also about unique displays that can’t be seen in any other season. In autumn, especially in October, the skies can host breathtaking auroras that will make you believe in magic and miracles.
During an aurora, colorful lights dance across the sky like ribbons of silk. You might think these lights are actually a part of nature itself – but this is not the case; they are caused by the collision of charged particles from our sun (solar wind) and gases in Earth’s atmosphere.
If you want to experience some jaw-dropping fall colors, Lake Tahoe is a great place for hiking. This stunning body of water lies at 6200 feet above sea level, and so it has an impressive collection of trees along its shoreline. If you visit in early autumn, you can enjoy the abundant golden aspens reflected in a picturesque blue lake and covered by a huge white blanket of snow.
There are also countless festivals that celebrate this beautiful season all across the United States, most commonly throughout October. The Great American Beer Festival held yearly in Denver. The National Buffalo Wing Festival held annually in Buffalo, New York also offers a wide array of delicious wings prepared by local restaurants amid live music and cool competitions.
What is the Best Time to visit Europe?
To help you plan your trip, here is some general information about the best time to visit Europe and why.
Spring: An excellent time to visit Europe’s most northerly nations such as Finland, Estonia or Latvia when the sun shines but temperatures are not too high. It’s also a great time to travel in northern England and Scotland when the days are longer and the weather more stable. The area between England, France and Germany is a great place to see when in spring because many flowers are in bloom and there are fewer crowds than during high season.
Summer: Europe’s most popular summer destination has to be its Mediterranean coast where the temperature stays warm, most of the time, and the beaches are pretty much empty. Everyone else is, as usual, sweltering in the crowded cities of France, Spain and Italy.
Autumn: True autumn is not a major tourist season in Europe but early fall or late summer will give you warm enough weather to enjoy some hiking during the day and avoid excessive heat at night.
Winter: Perhaps surprisingly, the winter of Europe is a great time to travel. The snow-covered Alps are an awesome sight and many of the most famous ski resorts are in full swing while barely anyone else is around. Days are short and it can be cold but if you’re used to the climate then it’s perfect for exploring Christmas markets and experiencing some of Europe’s most beautiful sights, such as the architecture of Prague.
Spring Break: Europeans focus on their country’s university cities in late February and March which means huge discounts for accommodation and often free shuttles to and from the airports if you are willing to book well in advance. This is also a great time for the UK and Ireland when many businesses close up shop for annual vacations. Many coastal and island cities in France, Italy, Greece and Spain are also very quiet during this period as northern Europeans take advantage of the better weather by travelling further south.
Summer Break: True summer break is not a major travel season in Europe but early autumn or late spring will give you nice weather to enjoy some hiking during the day and avoid excessive heat at night.
When to travel to the USA
The USA is an extremely popular destination for holidaymakers and tourists alike. Indeed, it was the most visited country in the world in 2013 and 2014. Despite this popularity however, there is no getting away from the fact that travelling to America is an expensive affair. The food, hotels, transportation and sightseeing costs are significantly higher than those incurred by trips to other popular holiday destinations. So when exactly is the best time to travel to America?
The best time to travel is usually around September and October, which are the shoulder months. If you really want to get the most out of your vacation, consider a holiday at this time. This is when accommodation rates are lower than usual. You can also enjoy some good weather in many parts of the United States but it’s not too hot. In the meantime, the prices of flights and other travel related services are at their lowest. There is less crowd too during this time.
December can be considered a good time to travel to America as well, although most people associate December with Christmas and New Year celebrations. Quite of few hotels offer special rates during this period and airfares are quite cheap too since demand for air travel is at its lowest. Many businesses close for almost a month in December too so it may be hard to find someone to help you around. You can also expect fewer crowds during this period although Christmas decorations are still up everywhere.
January and February are the most popular months for travelling to America because these holidays provide many unique attractions, guaranteed snow and a warmer climate. Of course, it’s also the time of year when flights to America cost more than any other period of the year. More people visit during this season so hotels are definitely going to be more expensive.
Best time of the year to travel to the Middle East:
People who wish to visit the Middle East are encouraged to travel during spring, around March or April. This is when temperatures in this area are moderate and pleasant. In this period of time, the landscape is green and fresh due to winter rains while in summer it becomes dry and desolate. Thus, those who want a real taste of the region should fly to the Middle East in spring.
In summer, temperatures can get too hot (over 100°F) and it is not very pleasant at all. Winter is also cold and windy and people are advised to avoid this time of year because sometimes there are even storms which may cause flight cancellations due to strong winds.
In autumn though, temperatures begin to drop and skies are often cloudy with the possibility of rain; however, in the Middle East it is a dry rain which does not wet people. This is also a good time of year to visit this part of the world as there will be less tourists during this season.
When to go to North Africa:
In fall, winter, or early spring? That’s what most people want to know about North Africa. The lively discussion of travel seasons has been going for some time on various internet newsgroups and mailing lists dealing with the region.
There is general agreement in said discussions on six months: May through October are considered the season to avoid, except at the southern end of the region. The summer months, from July to September, are also a bit hotter than most people care for, but at least there are nice beaches available in most places. But everything else is up in the air: which months are the best time to visit?
Timing is much less of a concern in the Mediterranean than in other areas visited by tourists. It is not as important to visit Morocco during hajj, and Ramadan is nowhere near as rigorous an observance there as it is in its heartland in Arabia.
In Egypt, there are only sundown-to-sunup fasts, so there is no need for concern about when you go to the Pyramids; they are open 24 hours a day. In Libya there are strict rules against fasting at all, and it seems appropriate that eating and drinking should be allowed on an anniversary of a revolution.
Another non-dietary reason to visit North Africa is to enjoy the weather. It is generally warm, with no cold or really hot periods of more than 2-3 weeks duration except at the highest elevations. When to go?
From that point of view, October and November would seem to be the best months for a visit; they are neither too hot nor too cool. Many people know about the best weather from personal experience in October and can point this out to you on a map, but I have never seen it done. There is less chance of rain at the height of summer than in winter or spring; however, if your trip includes Cairo, Cairo sees its only significant rainfall in September (if anything, winter there is drier than fall).
But what of the Spring? In this part of North Africa spring is March, April and May. It is a time that has to be lived to be believed. After cold and dreary winter, in the blink of an eye everything turns into love-and-roses mode: flowers bloom across the land and cities are bathed in light. Waterfalls turn into magnificent cascades, and vegetation seems to grow overnight. It is the season of renewal: spring has arrived!
The weather is also at its best in spring: there are only a few weeks that can be considered hot in summer terms. In Morocco average daytime high temperatures range from about 70 degrees to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
And there is the other side of spring. Spring as a season in North Africa means that you can travel at any time, and it will be pleasant enough in most places to provide an enjoyable experience. But do not wait until summer begins; by then all the good stuff is finished! I tell one of my favorite stories about this to illustrate the point:
The first time I went to Egypt was in October of 2018. Coming back through Alexandria en route to Tunis, I happened to arrive at the seaside town of Sidi Bou Said on a lovely spring morning, just as the sun rose over the bay and all the flowers were blossoming. It was one of those times that you never forget!
I saw the same bay and the same flowers in June of 2019. The difference was that in September, everything is in full bloom; unless you arrive at precisely the right time, you will miss it all. In June there are still plenty of blossoms around, but they are neither as colorful nor as abundant as they will be in the fall, and you are more likely to get a gray sky overhead than the brilliant blue of Autumn.
There is little variation in temperature across North Africa during the seasons; averages vary only slightly from month to month or from place to place. But it should be noted that there is not as much variation between winter (December, January & February) and spring (March, April and May) as there is between winter (December, January & February) and fall (September, October and November) in the region. There is also less temperature fluctuation between night and day than in the summertime. This is due to the effects of the Mediterranean Sea, which cools off at night and accumulates heat during the day.
Best time of the year to visit South Africa
Planning the perfect South Africa holiday is really about deciding what you want from your trip. It’s no secret that South Africa has some of the best beaches, game viewing and adventure activities in the world, so choosing what you want to experience will help narrow down your holiday options.
This region is blessed with an almost perfect climate. There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing (or too much of it).
However, there is a slight difference in weather between winter (summer) and summer.
The coldest months are June to September, which is when the southern hemisphere experiences the opposite of the northern hemisphere’s winter. This means that temperatures range from just above freezing (0° C) in some parts along the Cape Peninsula and eastwards towards Port Elizabeth, to in excess of 30° C elsewhere.
The warmest months are December and January, when temperatures range from around 20° C in the north to 30° C in the south. The best time for a holiday is therefore between February and May (when it’s neither too hot nor too cold) and September to November (before it gets too hot in December and January).
Over the winter months (June–September), a common question is “Should I go to South Africa?” In short, we say yes! The season traditionally starts with New Year’s Day in June and ends on 30 September. This period is marked by cooler temperatures and more rainfall than the summer months. June to September is the official winter season. Temperatures range from just above freezing (0° C) in some parts along the Cape Peninsula and eastwards towards Port Elizabeth, to in excess of 30° C elsewhere.
The South African summer is from October to May, with temperatures ranging from 20–30 °C in most regions. The weather might change dramatically within hours from one day to the next. It can be humid in summer, although coastal areas can be very windy, so take some warm clothing for the evening chill. Beach activities are at their peak during this time of year.
The only thing you need to watch out for is December through February (a result of South Africa´s winter), when the weather can be rainy and cold, but this period is a great time to visit South Africa for experiencing a different side of the country that you might not have imagined.
If you’re interested in hiking or skiing then it’s better to travel during winter months while if you prefer warmer weather then summer may be your best option. Regardless of what type of traveler you are, there’s always a good time to visit somewhere new!
